Staff Spotlight: Julie Perez, Surrogate Support Coordinator

January 13, 2017

Julie Perez

Julie Perez, SAI Support Coordinator

Julie Perez is on our dedicated support team at SAI and her official title is Surrogate Support Coordinator. Along with Holly and Caren it’s Julie’s sole responsibility to coordinate with the surrogates, their appointments, births and to lend them support on behalf of SAI San Diego surrogate agency. Whether you’re a first time surrogate or a five time surrogate you can find Julie by your side holding your hand, taking photos and walking you through the procedure. Julie keeps our surrogates in great spirits, is a shoulder to lean on and a hand to hold.

Let’s get to know Julie…

How many years have you worked at SAI? –  2 years and  2 months

What three traits define you? I’m adventurous, empathetic, knowledgeable.
What’s your favorite part about being a Surrogate Support Coordinator? – I get to know a lot of the Surrogates on a more personal level. I love going to the transfers and heart beat ultrasounds!! It warms my heart to be there to lend them the support they need and deserve.
Where is the best place you’ve travelled? I haven’t been there yet, I would love to go to Japan. I feel like I belong there! 🙂 Julie Perez lending support
What’s the best thing about working at SAI? –  I love the fact that no day at SAI is the same. We always have something happening, everything from a new surrogate to appointments to meeting parents and babies and watching the creation of new families.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? My Family, especially my daughter.
Why are you a surrogate? – Not only am I a Surrogate Support Coordinator but I’m also a current surrogate on my own journey. The main reason I became a surrogate was because my sister had issues with being able to conceive (16 years trying) and I felt and knew her pain on a personal level. I would never wish this type of pain on anyone so I decided to help someone and make a difference in the world.
How does it feel being a surrogate and an employee at SAI? – I was an employee before being a surrogate and I thought that I was making a difference. Now its beyond me… I can feel the little difference growing inside me and I can’t wait to see the joy on his families face when they meet him.
How do you think surrogates would describe you? – I have no idea! I hope they would say I’m super cool! Ha!
Favorite memory relating to your position? – Hmmmmm, when I pranked the CEO into thinking we had a voice command printer and she was talking to it!!!!!
Favorite Movie –  Dirty Dancing
Favorite TV Show – Game of Thrones/Walking Dead
Favorite Hobby – I love to read and watch movies.
Favorite Super Hero – I like villains more, LOL. Melifacent
Favorite Dessert – Dark Chocolate
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? – California 🙂 but I would like to visit everywhere.

Julie Perez with a surrogateIf you had a time machine, what point in time in the past or future would you visit? I would go into the future to see my daughter and her family when I am no longer here.
Name two things you consider yourself to be very good? Doing hair (I’m a professionally trained hairstylist) and making friends.
Who is your hero and why? My mom and Dad. They struggled with poverty and have shown me that sacrifice and hard work will make a difference.   They are also the most selfless people I know, they have given up their own food and clothes of their back for anyone in need.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you? I am a licensed cosmetologist for the last 10 years and I have gone skydiving and was part of the Baja 1000 race!
