The egg donation process, once your profile is selected, is usually no more than three months from being matched to undergoing the egg retrieval procedure.
Once you have submitted your application, photos and required consents and have been notified you are accepted and your profile is active, it’s now just a waiting game. Potential and current clients of Surrogate Alternatives browse our donor database, usually looking for someone with certain genetic attributes that closely resemble the wife, or another family member. Most people are not very particular, however, one of the most asked for traits people look for in an egg donor would be level of education.
If someone shows interest, we notify you and ensure your availability and that you do not have any black-out dates due to school, vacation, etc. After your approval, we prepare the referrals to the professionals for your screening appointments such as psychological screening, medical screening and finally you are assigned an attorney to review the legal agreement with you in its entirety so you are clear on your responsibility and expectations.
Once the legal documents are finalized, the clinic will give you a calendar and prepare your body for the procedure. There are frequent ultrasounds, blood draws, medication and injections involved in this process. The clinic will give you proper instructions and explain everything to you in detail. There is always someone available from the clinic to answer any questions you may have while you are in cycle.
After you have been on medication for 2-4 weeks, you will go in for the egg retrieval. It’s the BIG day! Once you are in your gown and have your IV in, the actual egg retrieval usually takes a matter of minutes. You wake up, maybe feeling a little sore and with mild cramping and are asked not to overdo it for the day.
