LGBTQ+ Family Building
Through Surrogacy
Inclusive, legally informed gestational surrogacy journeys for gay, lesbian, bi, trans, nonbinary, and single LGBTQ+ intended parents—guided by a team that treats your family as valid from day one.
Surrogacy can feel complex for LGBTQ+ intended parents, especially when laws and attitudes vary from state to state. This page explains how Surrogate Alternatives supports LGBTQ+ families through gestational surrogacy, why many choose to work with a San Diego-based agency in California, and what your next steps can look like.

You’re a Family,
Not a “Case Type”
LGBTQ+ intended parents often carry additional concerns, including prior discrimination or difficult adoption experiences. The goal is not only to manage logistics, but to ensure you feel respected, included, and supported at every step.
If you choose to share how open you want to be in paperwork, social media, or future conversations with your child, the team can help you think through those decisions in a way that aligns with your values.
Our commitments
- You will never be asked to justify your family structure
- Questions are asked so your team can advocate effectively with clinics, attorneys, and surrogates—not to question whether you should be parents
- The team can help you think through openness decisions in a way that aligns with your values

Quick Answers for LGBTQ+ Intended Parents
Do you work with gay male couples, lesbian couples, and single LGBTQ+ intended parents?
Yes. Surrogate Alternatives regularly supports gay male couples, lesbian couples, trans and nonbinary intended parents, and single LGBTQ+ intended parents through gestational surrogacy.
Can both partners in a gay male couple be biologically related to their children?
In some cases, yes. Embryos may be created using sperm from each partner with the same egg donor, depending on clinic guidance.
Do you still help with egg donation?
The agency does not operate its own egg donor program but regularly coordinates with clinics and donor agencies.
Why do many LGBTQ+ families choose California?
California has established case law and procedures supporting LGBTQ+ parentage and surrogacy, including pre-birth parentage orders.
Will surrogates know we are an LGBTQ+ family?
Yes. Matching is transparent and mutual. Surrogates know who they are supporting and choose families intentionally.
